Chocolate Waffles with Fresh Strawberries and a Blackberry Compôte
Ingredients
Waffle Batter
- 1 large egg
- 1 cup flour
- ¼ cup cocoa powder
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 cup milk
- 2 tbsp melted butter
- ¼ tsp baking soda
- ½ tsp baking powder
- ¼ cup chocolate chips
Other
- ½ cup strawberries sliced
- ½ cup blackberries
- Whipped cream optional
- Nutella optional
Instructions
- Combine all batter ingredients except chocolate chips in a large bowl. Use an immersion blender or hand mixer to mix the batter until smooth and sticky. Fold in the chocolate chips.
- Prepare your waffle maker by preheating it and spray or greasing it. Cook, batch by batch in the waffle maker, flipping once for each waffle. Set aside.
- Meanwhile place blackberries in a small pot on low-medium heat on the stove with about 1 tbsp water and a pinch of sugar. Gently heat, stirring occasionally, until the blackberries have partly broken down and the liquid is sticky.
- Serve waffles with freshly sliced strawberries, the blackberry compote, and optionally top with whipped cream and drizzle with nutella.
