Caprese Salad
Caprese salad is one of the most famous dishes to come from Italy. So simple, so elegant, and so fresh. It’s the perfect light snack or meal for a warm summer day.
It is named after the Italian island where it originated, Capri.
There are several variations on the classic Caprese salad, incorporating olives, oregano, or lettuce. Some recipes even call for pesto rather than the traditional balsamic vinegar dressing.
Black Garlic
While some people say that it is fermented garlic, this is technically incorrect. It is regular garlic that is slowly caramelized (which uses the Maillard reaction) over a period of weeks at low temperature.
In doing so, it creates a really unique color, texture, and taste (note that black garlic is not actually burnt but just gets a deep dark black color due to the caramelization process).
Black Garlic Drizzle
This recipe combines the unique sweet and savory taste of black garlic with the traditional Italian caprese salad. The drizzle is made by blending together black garlic, balsamic vinegar, date nectar, and oil, with some water to thin it. And the best part is that if you have leftover sauce, you can use it for a number of different recipes.
